 Updates

An update from John. Written on the 9th anniversary of the surgery, April 2009.

It has been way, way too long. I know. The last 4 years have been the most amazing yet.

Amber and I divorced shortly after the 5-year anniversary. While the marriage didn't work out, I still owe her a lot for sticking by me during the tough times.

Shortly after, I met and later married Sara. We have a beautiful daughter, Elena Lynne, and are all very happy together.

My father, my donor, has always been an inspiration. The man is 62 and runs, bikes or swims almost every day - sometimes all three. About two years ago I started going to the gym regularly to improve my overall health, shed a couple pounds and increase my odds of keeping this kidney for a very long time. My father kept trying to get me to run, and after about a year, I gave in. To celebrate the 9-year mark, we ran a half-marathon together on April 5th.

It was the second best day I ever had with my dad. We called it a tie.

On the kidney front, we're both doing well. I see my nephrologist every 4 months and have yet to show any signs of rejection. I plan to keep it that way.

As always, thanks for visiting,

John
