A dry-erase board illustrates how and where my new kidney will be placed in my abdomen.

Abdomen, you ask? Yes, most transplanted kidneys are placed in the recipient's abdomen tucked neatly into the hollow between the pelvic bone and the hip. Unless the patient's two native kidneys pose a threat to the body, they are left in place. So yes, I now have three kidneys. Cool, huh?
